What are Communities in Parla?
Communities is a feature that allows anyone to create a group around a specific topic.
Members can join only after the community creator sends them an invitation.
This creates a controlled and curated space, while expanding the topics and connection possibilities in Parla.
Important
Communities are designed for Premium members.
Only Premium users with an invitation can join a community.
Who can create a community?
Anyone can create a community. However, joining and participating is limited to Premium members with invitations.
This keeps communities focused and reduces spam or off-topic participation.
How do invitations work?
The community creator invites specific Premium members to join.
Invitations control access and allow the creator to grow the community intentionally.
Member invite
Standard invite that grants access as a regular community member.
Expert invite
Special invite that designates a member as an expert in the community.
What is an “expert” in a community?
Experts are members designated by the community creator using a special expert invitation.
Communities can use the expert role to enable more structured conversations (for example: experts helping non-experts).
Why have experts?
Experts help keep conversations high quality and topic-aligned — ideal for mentorship,
Q&A, or specialized communities.
Can a community have a schedule for when members can chat?
Yes. When creating a community, you can define a weekly schedule specifying when members can chat.
This makes it easier to coordinate availability and run structured community sessions.
Tip: Use shorter time windows at first, then expand based on participation.
Can I control who can chat with whom inside a community?
Yes. Communities support chat rules so you can control which role combinations are allowed,
such as:
Everyone ↔ Everyone
Any member can chat with any other member.
Experts ↔ Non-experts
Structured mode for Q&A or mentorship communities.
Experts ↔ Experts
Enable expert-only discussions.
Custom combinations
Choose what works best for your community’s goal.
Can the community creator revoke an invitation or remove a member?
Yes. The community creator can revoke invitations and remove members if needed.
This ensures community safety and helps maintain quality and focus.
Common reasons to revoke access
- Off-topic or disruptive behavior
- Community rule violations
- Inactive members (optional clean-up)
Do communities affect anonymity?
No. Communities are designed to keep Parla anonymous.
You still don’t have public profiles or public conversation history.
Communities simply restrict who can match with whom and when — based on invitations and rules.
